REMODEL & EXTENSION
Rob Harmer, Guildford, Surrey
“ DMS Architects performed extremely well through out my house renovation.
Having renovated a number of houses in the past I felt David is far ahead of his peers.
David combined imagination, professional skill, sound practical sense, ability to listen and great attention to detail.
David is extremely approachable and therefore had the complete respect of all members of the construction team and design consultants.
I would not hesitate to recommend DMS Architects. I intend to use them again myself.”
The original building was a low grade hotel having been converted from a Victorian house, and the clients brief was to return the building into its former glory of a stunning large Victorian family home.
Feasibility and planning drawings were prepared, to show how the original rooms could be brought back into use more in keeping with a family home, whilst also looking at building a sizeable side extension to provide a large family room at ground floor level and ensuites and dressing room for the bedrooms above, and putting a large orangery on the rear of the house.
The orangery worked to link all the rooms at the back of the house together, whilst giving the opportunity to open the kitchen to the garden.
It was essential that the bricks for the extensions matched with the existing, but given the age of the house, this was easier said than done, but with the help of a brick factor and the builder, we achieved this aim.
Brick detail features, stone cills and new timber sliding sash windows all worked to tie the new in with the old.
